VERMONT

STPA Legislative Needs and Concerns

In Vermont, two of the top current legislative concerns have to do with:

1. in state: parity issues and co-occurring disorders, when the primary diagnosis involves substance abuse;
and
2. at the federal level: obtaining Medicare and VA reimbursement for Masters level Psychologists, given our rural state, our aging population, and our fairly active involvement in the current military conflicts. Please know that approximately a third of our psychologists are licensed at the masters level: in our state it remains a competency issue - similar to the statutes around "reading for the law" as opposed to attending law school and serving as a draftsman as opposed to obtaining a degree in art and architecture.
