STPA Legislative Needs and Concerns

NYSPA strongly advocates for passage of the following bills which are the focus of its 2008 legislative agenda:
Hospital Privileges Due Process (S4644 Hannon, A6340 Gottfried) This legislation provides psychologists with the same opportunity currently afforded certain other health professionals (physicians, dentists, podiatrists and optometrists) concerning due process in the event of denial by hospitals of license appropriate privileges and/or medical staff membership.

Statute of Limitations (S4155 LaValle, A4639 Morelle) This legislation amends the education law to provide a statute of limitations of ten years for all complaints of professional misconduct against mental health professionals licensed under articles 153, 154 and 163 of the education law. In cases involving the treatment of children under the age of twenty-one years old, all complaints of professional misconduct shall be commenced within ten years after the complainant reaches the age of majority.
