NORTH CAROLINA

STPA Legislative Needs and Concerns

1. Mental health parity, State health Plan, funding/policy issues in public sector, funds for psychology internships

2. Passed NC's first mental health parity bill in July of 2007 - goes into effect July 1, 2008. Assured that mental health benefit in State health Plan remained the same in the new PPO. The indemnity plan is being phased out at the end of June.
Leader in broad coalition on public sector - have gotten new money for the system last year and this year Have had a bill introduced to provide more support for doctoral internship programs in state hospitals and universities. So far have only been able to maintain the $50,000 that is in the state budget for one program. Will continue to work on increases.
