IDAHO

STPA Legislative Needs and Concerns

1. To support/revise a bill to authorize the building of a secure mental health treatment facility. The facility is to house 250 correction inmates with mental illness and 50 civilly committed individuals under the care of the Dept. of H&W. Although not in different facilities as preferred, the populations will be separated. Arguments in favor of the combined facility carried the day due to estimates that significant cost savings could be realized in construction costs and combined services such as food service, housekeeping, security, etc.
2. To provide input/recommendations for change to Idaho's involuntary commitment laws.
3. IPA worked with Alliant University to make RxP training available in Idaho, sent its advocacy committee chair to the RxP training in Missouri, is in the process of setting up an RxP Task Force listserv, and applied for a special projects grant from APA to further its efforts in this area.
